Program Description

Event Details

Pennsylvania made significant amendments to its nonprofit corporation law in November 2022, and in 2025, one of the most major and impactful of those changes – the new annual report filing requirement – will have taken effect and can impact nonprofits that fail to comply by June 30, 2025. For libraries in Pennsylvania, this requirement presents many questions. This virtual training session, designed specifically for the libraries who are members of the Allegheny County Library Association, will help demystify the rules. Libraries will not want to miss out on this legal briefing about these major changes and other helpful legal reminders for libraries.

Presenters

Morgen Cheshire, Managing Attorney, Cheshire Law Group

Morgen is a systemic thinker, dedicated to serving the legal needs of nonprofit organizations and revolutionizing how nonprofits access legal supports. She is the founder and managing attorney of the Cheshire Law Group, which was launched in July 2011 to bring legal counsel within reach for nonprofit organizations, and in her daily practice, she exclusively serves as outside general counsel for nonprofits, helping them to manage their strategic and day-to-day legal issues effectively and affordably. Morgen is also the founder and managing editor of PAnonprofitlaw.com, a digital legal library launched in 2023 that offers resources that help make sense of legal complexities and accelerate and elevate the work of Pennsylvania’s nonprofit organizations and the professionals who serve them, including tools that range from ready-touse templates, to informative guides, to an annotated version of Pennsylvania’s business law statute governing nonprofit corporations. Morgen also currently serves on the Public Policy Committee for the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations and is a member of the Pennsylvania Department of State Corporation Bureau Advisory Committee. Morgen earned her bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College, and her law degree from Temple University School of Law, cum laude, and spent her third year of law school at Columbia School of Law studying art law. She worked in her middle school library and loves books, and she is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New York.

Dan Fruzynski, Attorney, Cheshire Law Group

Based in Allegheny County, Dana is a former executive director and entrepreneur, and deeply understands the importance of strategic thinking and caring for teams that get the work done. Dana offers creative solutions as general counsel for nonprofit organizations, helping to support effective program management and to ensure that those who staff nonprofits are treated as the true assets of the entities they serve.
