Libraries Unlocked: Looking Beyond Traditional Organization Systems to Create User-Friendly Collections

Thursday, August 8, 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m. via Zoom

This session explores alternatives to traditional library organization strategies for creating collections that are more user-friendly, and independently navigable to modern library users. Prioritizing accessibility means identifying barriers to access and making changes to disrupt and remove those barriers. In this session we'll explore various methods that small libraries can consider for their spaces, from small scale changes like copious signage, to medium scale changes like creating mini "pulled out" collections, to large scale changes like genrefication and ditching/adapting Dewey, in order to create library spaces that are more accessible and intuitive for the modern reader.
